Metal Casting

Our captive foundry using Plaster Mold and Sand Casting process' can produce aluminum castings in quantities from 1-100 parts in 2-4 weeks.

Using A356-T6 aluminum in the plaster casting process can provide approximately 80% of the properties of a 380 die cast aluminum. Advantages of plaster vs. sand casting are thin walls cast using plaster casting can be produced down to .060" with a very smooth surface finish.

Sand castings require walls .200" or thicker can be cast in aluminum, gray iron, ductile iron or steel.

Tooling for both process' are very similar and can be made quickly using SLA patterns loose, or SLA patterns used to create match plate or cope and drag tooling.

Core boxes are created using these same methods. Tooling methods and costs are driven by the complexity and size of the casting as well as the required quantities.

For quantities in the 1-6 range, loose SLA tooling can be very cost effective and timing can be as quick as 1 week.

For larger parts and quantities in the 10-100 range will require match plate or cope and drag tooling created off the SLA which generally takes 2-3 weeks.
