3D Printing with ULTEM
ULTEMÂ is a flame-retardant high performance thermoplastic material fabricated through the 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing process known as Fuse Deposition Process (FDM).
Why Use ULTEM?
When compared to other additive manufacturing processes like desktop 3D printers and Stereolithography (SLA), ULTEM material allows oneÂ to work more iteratively, test more thoroughly,Â and move confidently and efficientlyÂ from prototype toÂ production. Â ULTEM, along with other FDM materials, provides these benefits because the material is an actual production plastic.Â Materials in other additive manufacturing processes are merely similar to the production plastic, and therefore not able to provide a prototype that is as accurate or representative of the intended part.
ULTEM has become more popular over the past few years, because users can fabricate parts with intricate designs with ease that may not have been possible in other traditional manufacturing processes.Â In addition, parts fabricated in ULTEM (and most other additive manufacturing materials) can typically be turned around within a few business days.
This FDM material is ideal for functional and end-use parts that requireÂ high strength-to-weight ratio and its FST (flame, smoke, and toxicity) rating.
