Finishes and coatings for 3D printed parts

Post-Process Services

Depending on your application’s requirements, we offer a wide range of different finishes and coatings for plastic and metal prototype and production parts.

Most 3D printed parts require a level of finishing. We have developed our own unique levels of finishing based on your additive part requirements. See available 3D part custom finishes.

Most parts, whether produced in additive manufacturing, urethane casting, injection molding and machining will require a special process or coated finish for prototype or production. Our plastic and metal part finishes were developed based on customer and industry specifications. We adjust them to be custom or per drawing specifications on a case by case basis.

Plastic Part Finishes:

  • Vacuum metalizing for metallic-like finishes, like chrome
  • Plating for metallic finishes with nickel, chrome, copper, gold, and more
  • Painting custom colors with our in-house Sherwin Williams color match system
  • Color-matched colorants, compounds, and materials
  • Anti-static nickel coatings
  • Soft-touch coatings to simulate over-mold grips
  • Vapor polishing (or vapor smoothing)
  • Dyeing
  • Tumbling
  • Bead blast
  • 3D-printed textures
  • Molded-in textures (urethane and injection molding)
  • Painted finishes: textured, matte, gloss
  • Part decorations (including labeling, silk screening, and pad printing)

  • Heat treat
  • Fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI)
  • Magnetic particle inspection (MPI)
  • Passivation
  • Plating for metallic finishes with nickel, chrome, copper, gold, and more
  • Painting custom colors with our in-house Sherwin Williams color match system
  • Powder coating
  • Anodizing
  • Laser marking and engraving

Value-Added Services

As an advanced manufacturer, we help our customers by providing a full service from design all the way to inventory, quality, and production project management. With our ERP system, we manage part levels from part to sub-assembly to final part assembly for all different industries and customers. Here are some of the value-added processes and procedures we offer:

Project Managers reviewing 3D printing designs
  • Dedicated Project Managers: Each project is managed by a project manager from receipt of RFQ through the shipment of that product. They are knowledgeable in all processes and able to consult our customers on the best design, process, and material for your project’s needs.
  • Part Assembly: 3D-printed, injection mold, and/or machined parts can be assembled with purchased screws, inserts, washers and springs, and other materials to make your complete assembly and allow you to manage one vendor and one part number.
  • ERP System: We use our ERP system to manage your product from quote through shipment and inventory storage, helping us to manage your product and all changes that may occur.
Materials Management: Our team of engineers and project managers will ensure your product’s materials are correct and meet all necessary ROHS, REACH, ITAR, UL, FAR, DFARS, and/or conflict minerals for industries like medical and defense.
  • ISO Certifications: We invest heavily into achieving the highest-quality certifications with ISO 9001, AS9100D, and ISO 13485 to ensure we manage and produce your product correctly consistently.
  • International Tariffs in Arms Regulation (ITAR): As an ITAR-certified organization, we ensure that ITAR protected projects and documents are protected for aerospace and defense industries.
  • Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB): Our company is a certified WOSB providing prototype and contract production services to the medical, industrial, aerospace, and defense industries.
  • Inventory Management Systems: We work with our customers to provide inventory management systems, like Kanbans, to our customers to reduce inventory costs and product turns.
  • Quality: This is one of our core values as a company. We work with our customers to ensure inspection plans, control plans, first articles, PFMEAs, and PPAPs control the critical dimensions for production.
  • Process Validation: To further ensure production repeatability on products, we implemented validation processes (IQ, OQ, PQ) for our customer requirements.

What Our Partners Are Saying

In this competitive world with ever-changing technology, we need innovation partners that we can trust. Working with the team at The Technology House and Sea Air Space Machining & Molding over the past five years, I have grown to rely on their ability to deliver unique results and thus instruct my development teams to call them first. They constantly drive state-of-the-art solutions that exceed the expectations of our Medical Device Customers, delivering them at a great value!

- Brian W., General Manager, Medical Device Manufacturer

Most of my 30 year career has been spent finding vendors that meet my Cost, Service, and Quality requirements. The number of suppliers that can meet those criteria for a sustainable period of time are few. TTH is one of those companies. The management team at TTH is always willing to work with us to improve efficiency and offer solutions that exceed our expectations. If you are looking for a partner, not just a supplier, the team at TTH will not disappoint.

- Tom C., NPI Materials Leader

Design Without Restriction

See how we partnered with Vitamix and Carbon to redefine what's possible. We took a legacy, six-piece, injection-molded part design and turned it into a new, one-piece, 3D-printed part.
